Tech Free Sundays
This won’t be a very technical post, but I suggest for every fanatic developer, project manager or anybody who uses computers extensively.
I recently installed RescueTime on my machine. It’s a time management program which collects data on what you’re doing on a daily basis.
The software was installed on September 13 and today (October 12) I accessed my monthly statistic and I was frightened to see that I’m working on my machine an average of 11 hours a day. It’s surprising for me to see this time-frame broken down into which programs I’m using the most, which sites I browse, etc.
An average of 9 hours I’m working with dev. tools like TextMate, Terminal and also browsing tech sites. I know it’s hard to stay competitive in this business, but every person has it’s limits.
For this reason I will set Sunday as a tech free day. On this day I will check my e-mail only once and then I will shut down my computer. I think every person should set up a day like this, or at least a few hours, because it’s not good for the most important thing on this world which is health.
I’m also running a photoblog, it’s a good time to take new photos
